I just watched the 1955 Doris Day film about Ruth, and the DVD contained two short films of Ruth. What a star! I must find out mode about her.

I came across a picture of Ruth Etting circa 1931 inscribed to my dad, Sam Smith. The inscription reads “To Sam Smith Best Wishes” signed by Ruth Etting. She also wrote the name of the show
“Ziegfield’s Simple Simon” which she was starring in. The picture was taped on the back of a menu
from the R.M.S. Veendam of the Holland America Line. I found the picture in and among some
family pictures that I found. She was wearing a light colored sweater with what looks like a white
or light yellow shirt and a skirt with a matching belt.

Hi John! If you search on YouTube you can find other artist’s versions of this song. So far I don’t think it’s available with Ruth Etting singing, but you never know! Someone might have a copy and upload it at any time!

a wonderful song by two wonderful singers, Ruth and Eddy were from arguably the greatest music scene ever,the roaring twenties and the fabulous thirties standards were a dime a dozen.You had to be top class and without doubt they filled the bill.THis is why when hollywood was looking for life stories The Jolson story ,love me or leave me(ruth etting)and the Eddy Cantor story were so well received not only for the stars but the songs as well.

My great aunt is Clara Blackath who was in the Ziegfield follies put the picture with the russian wolfhound does not look like her. My aunt was engaged to Bing Crosby but broke it off to come home when her father became ill.
